‘A figurative artist going abstract’

Welcome to my website – ToneMathewsArt.

As an art educator and practising painter I have considered myself to be a figurative artist. However, the attraction of the abstract has always fascinated me and in recent years I have embraced that style. 

The works that I am currently involved with are pictorial and theoretical experiments where expressive and symbolic use of colour combine with the formal elements to create form.

My work is always open to change and the elements which I respond to are spontaneity, force, power, collision and intuitive mark making where statements of action empower the image with vitality.
